Lula Mae Myers

Lula Mae Myers, 94, of Poteau died Friday, May 18, 2012, in Poteau.
Lula ws born July 31, 1917, to Clarence and Nellie (Pate) Shrum in Hartford, Ark.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Neal Myers; son, Jackie Neal Myers; and grandson, Ricky Neal Myers; her parents,  three brothers and one sister. 
Lula was an elementary teacher for 30 years, pianist, teacher and Vacation Bible School Director at church, a member of the Poteau Church of the Nazarene. She was an active participant of Compassionate Ministries through music at the Oaks Healthcare Center. 
As long as she was able, she enjoyed writing articles and sharing them in the Poteau Daily News.
Survivors include her daughter, Frances Boevers and husband John; sister, Irene Shrum; brother, Don and wife Dixie Shrum; four granddaughters and one grandson, Debra Myers Gentry and husband Matt, Melissa Myers Ward and husband Ron, Stephanie Myers Free and husband Johnny, Ginger Boevers and Nicholas Boevers. She is also survived by six great-grandchildren, Ryan, Morgan and Rece Ward, Tyler Westerfield, Brittany, Chasity and J.P. Free.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, May 19, at Oakland Cemetery Pavilion, Poteau, with Rev. Jim Cook officiating. 
Pallbearers will be Ryan Ward, Nicholas Boevers, Tyler Westerfield, Ronnie Ward, Johnny Free and John Boevers.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Gideons International. 
As Lula said, “Flowers pass away but God’s word never passes away.”
