Main Street Matters awards

March 27, 2013

Keri Powers, executive director of Poteau Main Street Matters, addresses the audience at the group's annual awards banquet Tuesday night.

Poteau Main Street Matters Executive Director Keri Powers said she’s hoping to see the pocket park on Dewey Street get a facelift. Powers made her remarks at the organization’s annual banquet Tuesday at the Reynolds Center.
She showed artist renderings of some of the planned improvements, including replacing the concrete flooring of the park with sod and building a stone and brick entry with iron gates that could be locked at night. Among the plans for raising money for the project are selling engraved bricks.
Main Street presented several awards to community volunteers during the banquet. Eric Standridge received the Best Main Street Community Public Awareness Project award for developing a walking tour of downtown Poteau.
The Junior Main Street Matters program received the Volunteer Development Program awards.
Main Street also recognized two “heroes,” for their volunteer service to the organization: Randy Bridgman and Darren Wagner.
Receiving the award for best downtown promotion was “Trick or Treat Main Street.” The award was presented to Main Street vice president Lisa Lewis.
Doug Stone, owner of Western Auto, was recognized for having the best façade rehabilitation for the work done to the front of his building, including a new store sign.
Vickie’s Beauty Boutique was honored for having the best window display.
The Best Signage award went to the Witte Street General Store.
Tosha Brand, owner of Forever Treasures, was recognized as the Main Street Board Member of the Year.
The awards were presented by Main Street President Lisa Peters.
