Marie Faye Hendrix, 90, of McCurtain
died Aug. 10, 2011, in Fort Smith, Ark.
She was born July 30, 1921, in Bokoshe
to Elisha Elbert and Clara Angeline
(McCullar) Whitfield. She was a seamstress
and housewife. Marie was a member
of the McCurtain Eastern Star for 30 years,
and a faithful member of the First Baptist
Church of Bokoshe for more than 70 years.
She was a beloved mother, sister, grandma, great-grandma
and friend to everyone. Marie will be greatly missed by all
who knew her.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her beloved
husband, Otto A. Hendrix; and two brothers, Donald
Whitfield and Leonard Whitefield.
Surviving her are two sons and daughters-in-law, Roger
and Ruth Hendrix of Poteau and Steve and Jeanne Hendrix
of Bokoshe; a daughter, Cheryl Hendrix of McCurtain;
seven grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; two brothers,
Frank Whitfield and wife Geneva of Porum and Eugene
Whitfield and wife Helen of Collinsville; one sister, Gay
Blan and husband Ken of Claremore; numerous nieces,
nephews, and a host of other family members, friends, and
Pallbearers will be Larry Carver, John Phillips, J.D.
Phillips, Charles Wells, Pim Tankersley and R.C. Culwell.
Honorary pallbearers will be Paul LeFlore, Jim Lyons,
Gary Carver, Lance, Ryan, Aaron, Samantha, Sarah, and
Candice Hendrix, Kenny, Ricky and Jerry Blan, Keith,
Kelley and Kris Whitfield, and Bradley Whitfield.
Services will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, Aug. 13, at
the First Baptist Church in Bokoshe with Bro. Jerry Turner
officiating. Burial will follow service at Milton Cemetery,
The family will greet friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at
the funeral home in Poteau. Services are under the direction
of Grace Manor Funeral Home.
