Martha Belle (Bramlett) Hardin

Martha Belle (Bramlett) Hardin of Oklahoma City died July 23, 2013. She was born Dec. 7, 1940, in Poteau to Ellis and Margie Belle Bramlett. Martha graduated from Poteau High School as tri-valedictorian in 1959 and Oklahoma State University with a degree in home economics education in 1962 and a master’s degree in clothing, textiles, and merchandising in 1968. She later earned an Early Childhood Certification at the University of Central Oklahoma.
Martha married her high school sweetheart, Larry Hardin, on Sept. 1, 1962. Martha and Larry celebrated their golden wedding anniversary with a reception at their longtime church home, United Methodist Church of the Servant. One of her church ministries was an 18-year service as Care Chaplin with the Care Team. She also treasured singing in church and community choirs. Martha began her teaching career as a home economics teacher at John Marshall High School. She went on to teach at Warm World Preschool, as well as teaching pre-K and kindergarten at Edgemere Elementary School. She retired in 2003.
Survivors include her husband, Larry; daughter and granddaughter, Sheri Hardin and Ella Hardin Dawon; son, Jeff Hardin; mother-in-law, Cecil Hardin; first cousins, Mary Yerby Stern, Wesley Sokolosky (Evvy Eisen), Linda Westerburg (Rob), Stephanie Sokolosky (Ed), Bill Casey (Monica); sisters-in- law, Carol Tobler (Ken) and Marilyn Vaught; their respective children and grandchildren; and soul sister, Carolyn McDonald Becker.
Martha was preceded in death by her parents; cousin, Mary Lee Ealey; father-in-law, Jess Hardin; and brother-in- law, Robin Vaught.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, July 29, at United Methodist Church of the Servant, 14343 N. MacArthur Blvd., with a reception to follow. Private inurnment will be at the church columbarium.
