Mary Helen Jobe Anderson, 92, of Poteau died July 16, 2013. She was born on Sept. 29, 1920, in Covington, Tenn., to John Samuel and Lucille Campbell Jobe, the third of six children.
Mrs. Anderson grew up in the Memphis area where she attended Humes High School. She worked several jobs in the following years, during the WWII era. She married John Franklin Anderson of Chicago on March 8, 1944, in Fresno, Calif. After marriage to Lt. Anderson, their homes were several Army Air Force bases throughout the United States and Panama. Lt. Anderson died while on active duty in the Panama Canal Zone in 1947.
After the death of her husband, Mrs. Anderson began a new career in Memphis with the fledgling airline Chicago & Southern. C&S Airline later became the beginning of Delta Airlines. She worked for C&S and Delta in Memphis, Atlanta, Ga., and Los Angeles, until retirement in 1988.
She was preceded in death by her husband, her mother and father, three brothers, two sisters, a niece and three nephews.
She is survived by her daughter, Teri Anderson Pickle of Poteau; granddaughter, Susanna Lynn Pickle of San Antonio, Texas; grandson, William C. Pickle III of Oklahoma City; great-granddaughter, Dakota Rose Pickle of Oklahoma City; nieces, Linda Herz and Cara Parker of Manteno, Ill.; and several other nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the Poteau Pound Pups or Poteau Valley Humane Society. Funeral services were held previously at Memorial Park Funeral Home in Memphis.
