When the Poteau Pirates soccer team beat the Oologah Mustangs 6-2 in Friday night’s Class 4A state quarterfinals, it meant not only return to the state semifinals, but their state semifinal contest will take place at 7 tonight at Costner Stadium against the Bethany Bronchos.
“It’s extremely pleasing,” said senior goalkeeper Kyle Matos about playing in what will be the biggest high school soccer game ever to be played in Poteau. “I never dreamed of this. It’s just amazing to say we’ve gone this far. Now, everyone in the stands can see it, not just our families who travel with us. Our whole community can see us do it [make state finals]. Everyone should be out here. It will be a good game.”
