Merry Christmas to you all; some holiday hoops this week

December 24, 2013

I want to wish you a Merry Christmas to you all on this Christmas Eve. As you're reading this, I either am en route to have already arrived at my Christmas destination of Enid to spend Christmas with my mother, and will return Friday morning to be present to put out Saturday's sports pages — and cover the first day of the Panama Holiday Festival.
That leads me to mention that there will be some holiday hoops this week. The Panama Holiday Festival will be Saturday and Monday. The host Razorbacks and Lady ’Backs will be joined by Spiro, Haileyville and Acorn, Ark.
The Poteau Pirates will be in the Lendel Thomas Classic, which will be Thursday through Saturday in Harrison, Ark. This tournament is to make up for the Wilburton Tournament that the Pirates could not play in because of playing for the Class 4A state football title that weekend.
The Heavener teams will be in the Mansfield (Ark.) Tournament, which begins Friday and will end up on Monday.
For the record, the week of holiday hoops got started Monday night with Arkoma's home games with Gans, which were rescheduled from Thursday night due to Gans being in the Eastern Oklahoma State College Classic in Wilburton.
