STILWELL â€” The Poteau Pirates could not overcome an early deficit as they lost a NOAA Conference game to the homestanding Stilwell Indians by the score of 43-37 on Monday night.
The Pirates fell behind 12-10 after a period to the Indians, who increased their lead to six points, 25-19, at halftime.
The Pirates outscored the Indians 10-6 in the third quarter to cut the deficit back to two points at 31-29 going into the final period.
However, the Indians outscored the Pirates 12-8 in the fourth quarter to hold on for the win.
Pocola 56, Howe 52: In Howe, Omar Qamounâ€™s basket with 12 seconds left in the game broke a 52-all tie for the Indians.
The Lions had a chance to tie the game with 5.4 seconds left, but missed two free throws. Pocolaâ€™s Preston Hobbs got the rebound, was fouled and hit two free throws with 4.6 seconds left to seal the deal.
The Indians jumped out to a 6-0 lead on a layup by Lance Standridge with seven minutes left in the opening period.
The Lions responded with a 14-0 run to take a 14-6 lead. Howe had a 14-7 lead after one quarter.
Hobbs hit a 3-point basket with a second left before halftime to get Pocola a 21-20 lead the break.
The Lions, who had a 37-36 lead after three periods, got the lead to six points at 42-36 midway through the final period, but the Indiansâ€™ late charge snatched the win for the visitors.
Heavener 68, Mena, Ark., 54: In Heavener, the Wolves bounced back from a rough Wilburton Tournament last weekend with a home win in the first of back-to-back nights of home games.
The Wolves jumped to a 16-13 lead after a period en route to a 32-23 advantage at halftime.
Mena cut the deficit to 43-36 after three periods, but Heavener outscored the opposition 25-18 to get the win.
Roland 63, Spiro 41: In Spiro, the Bulldogs jumped out to a 15-9 lead after one period, but the Rangers outscored them 26-15 in the second quarter, 11-1 in the third and 17-7 in the final period to win going away.
Stigler 55, Talihina 49: In Talihina, the Panthers jumped out to a 10-6 lead after a period and never lost their advantage.
