WISTER — In a true pitcher's duel, Wister's Tyler Gibson outdueled Spiro's Tyler Didway as the Wildcats blanked the Bulldogs 2-0 Monday afternoon in a rematch of last year's LeFlore County Tournament championship game — which was won by the ’Dogs 4-1.
Gibson struck out 12 batters and scattered three hits.
The ’Cats got an RBI double by Dalton Brown in the second inning and an RBI double by Jon Watts in the third inning to produce the game's only runs.
But the Bulldogs tried to mount a rally against Gibson in the seventh inning. Slater Dunn led off with a single, and went to third base on Colby Demato's double with no outs.
However, Gibson got the next batter to fly out, then fanned the following two batters to end the game.
Despite the loss, Didway gave up only the hits to Watts and Brown, while fanning six batters in six innings.
Talihina 7, Panama 1: In Talihina, the Golden Tigers (5-4) had a 3-1 lead by the third inning, and then scored more runs late to seal the deal.
Whitesboro 9, Clayton 7: In Clayton, the Bulldogs rallied from a 7-6 deficit with a three-run sixth inning to get the win.
The ’Dogs had a four-run fifth inning which tied the game at 6-all, thanks to an RBI double by C.J. Dean and a three-run double by Quintin Ludlow. Then, Clayton scored once in its half of the inning to regain a 7-6 lead — setting up Whitesboro's game-winning rally.
Stigler 5, Pocola 4: In Pocola, the Panthers broke a 3-3 tie with a pair of runs in the seventh inning.
The Indians, who suffered their first conference loss of the season, got one of those runs back in their half of the seventh inning, and had the bases loaded with two outs but couldn't get the game-tying run home.
Kinta 10, Arkoma 0: In Kinta, the Mustangs made seven errors in the game, leading to most of the runs for the Eagles.
Arkoma had only three hits — a first-inning double by Christian Davis which just missed being a home run, a second-inning single by Josh Marion and a third-inning single by Tyler Ruston.
Wilburton 10, Leflore 3: In Wilburton, the Savages scored once in the second and third innings to cut the Wilburton lead to 4-3.
The Diggers, however, took control of the game with a three-run third inning for a 7-3 lead going into the fourth inning.
