Monroe girls make ORES State Tournament; at least one more local team will join Lady Eagles at big dance

The first team from LeFlore County to make the state tournament did so Thursday night in the 2013 Organization of Rural Elementary Schools (ORES) state playoffs.
The Monroe Lady Eagles defeated Stidham 47-29 to win the Division IV Tournament championship game Thursday night at Fanshawe.
The Lady Eagles will play the winner of the Swink/Albion consolation final contest at 7 p.m. Thursday in at Shawnee Middle School in the opening round of the state tournament.
The Lady Eagles won't be the only county team to make the ORES State Tournament. The Monroe Eagles, who lost 41-31 to Stidham, will play the Fanshawe Grizzlies at 3 this afternoon in the consolation finals in Fanshawe.
The host Lady Grizzlies will also try to make state as they will play Stidham at 2 this afternoon in the Division IV Tournament's consolation finals in Fanshawe. The winner will advance to next week's state tournament.
The Hodgen teams, playing in the Division II Tournament at Frink-Chambers Middle School in McAlester, were still alive at press time in their bids to make state.
The Lady Bulldogs faced Brushy on Friday night with the winner making state. The loser will play in the consolation finals at 5 this afternoon for the back-door entry to state.
The Bulldogs played Holly Creek on Friday in the consolation semifinals, with the winner playing at 6 tonight in the consolation championship for the right to make state.
