November 15, 2012

An area woman was critically injured Thursday morning during a three-vehicle accident at the intersection of U.S. Highway 59 and Oklahoma Highway 83.

A three-vehicle accident Thursday morning at the intersection U.S. Highway 59 and Oklahoma Highway 83 resulted in one woman being flown to a Tulsa hospital for treatment.
According to witnesses at the scene, a silver four-door car attempted to turn onto U.S. Highway 59 and in doing so, reportedly pulled out in front of a northbound black pickup. The impact caused the pickup to turn onto it's side and slide into a semi tractor trailer carrying fuel. Witnesses said the pickup impacted with the rear wheels of the semi then came to rest on it's wheels.
The woman was freed from the wreckage by the Poteau and Heavener Fire Departments. LeFlore County Emergency Medical Services arranged for medical helicopter to land at the scene to take the woman to a Tulsa trauma center where she is listed in critical condition.
Three other people were involved in the accident, including the woman's six-month-old child. Witnesses said none of the three were injured.
