Most top seeds make championship semifinals at JH County Tournament; weather cancels tonight's games (UPDATED)

Seven of the top eight seeds in the boys and girls bracket made it to Friday night's championship semifinals of the 2014 LeFlore County Junior High Tournament, which saw action at both tournament-host Arkoma and Panama on Tuesday.
In quarterfinal action at Arkoma, the top boys seed, Heavener, struggled early then prevailed 38-26 over Pocola, while the Howe Lions pulled off the mild upset in a 34-32 overtime win over Talihina. The Wolves and Lions, only five miles apart, will drive 40 miles to meet each other in the semifinals at 6:10 p.m. Friday in Arkoma.
At Panama, Monroe's boys beat Arkoma 47-36, while Wister got past Whitesboro 42-36. The Eagles and the Wildcats, the defending champions, will face each other at 8:30 p.m. Friday in Arkoma in the other semifinal.
The semifinal winners will meet for the title at 8:15 p.m. Saturday at Carl Albert State College's Mick Thompson Fieldhouse, while the losers will play for third place at 4:45 p.m. at CASC.
On the girls' side, No. 1 seed Heavener handled Fanshawe 46-21 and Hodgen edged Wister 32-30 in quarterfinals played at Arkoma. The Lady Wolves and Lady Bulldogs will meet in the championship semifinals at 5 p.m. Friday in Arkoma.
At Panama, after trailing by double digits in the opening period, the Poteau/Pansy Kidd Middle School Lady Raiders rallied to down the Howe Lady Lions 44-35 to set up a semifinal match-up with Spiro. The Lady Bulldogs got past Talihina 38-30. The Lady Raiders and the Lady Bulldogs will play their semifinal game at 7:20 p.m. Friday in Arkoma.
Tonight was to have been consolation quarterfinals at Arkoma and Pocola, but the games were canceled due to icy conditions. On the sports page of this website, updated brackets with the new game dates and times have been posted.
