Mourine (Plumlee) Gentry, 82, was born Jan. 19, 1930, at Meeker to J.E. and Callie Plumlee. Mourine began her eternal life on Sunday, Jan. 6, 2013. She had eight brothers and one sister. She attended first grade in a one-room schoolhouse at Union Point then attended second grade at Musson School near Shawnee. From third to eighth grade, Mourine attended Ferguson County School. She graduated from Butner High School in 1948.
At an early age, she accepted the Lord and attended Ferguson Assembly of God and was baptized in a farm pond. In 1951 she met Howard Gentry and married him in 1952. They had two children, Linda (Gentry) Fox of Poteau and Dennis Gentry of Oklahoma City. They moved to Midwest City in 1972. Both retired from Tinker Air Force Base. Howard and Mourine were married 42 years at the time of Howard’s death in 1995.
Mourine attended Althea Temple Church in Midwest City. She loved country gospel and bluegrass music. Her favorite singer was George Jones. Mourine was a beautiful lady who always wanted to look her best before she went anywhere. She will be remembered most for her inner qualities that include: her tenderness and gentleness, her kindness and sense of humor, her smile, her willingness to help and support us, her encouragement and cards she always sent us, her standard of discipline, and her unconditional love. Mourine will also be remembered for her talent of cooking every Sunday and holidays for our family and friends and her skill of sewing dresses for her daughter and granddaughters.
Mourine cherished her two granddaughters, Charity (Gentry) Snapp and Sara Gentry both of Oklahoma City. She loved her son-in-law, Eddie Fox, and Charity’s husband, Mike Snapp, and her granddaughters’ mother, Lori Watson. She treasured the relationships with her many nieces and nephews. She was fond of her next-door neighbors, Jeannie and Jarod Boggs.
Special thanks to all the staff at Hospice Quality Care who provided compassionate health care and the host of friends and family members who loved her in this life.
Funeral services are scheduled for 2 p.m., Tuesday, Jan. 8, at Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel in Seminole with Jim McCool officiating. Burial will be Little Cemetery.
