Muldrow boys knock Poteau freshmen out of own tournament; Heavener girls get past Wister to reach consolation championship

The Poteau Pirates freshmen basketball team fought and scraped for three quarters only to see the much larger Muldrow Bulldogs power through the fourth quarter and defeat the Pirates by the score of 36-27 in the consolation semifinals of the Poteau Freshmen Tournament at Sherman Floyd Fieldhouse.
The Bulldogs will face Sallisaw in Saturday's consolation championship at noon Saturday. The Black Diamonds defeated the Stigler Panthers 44-23 in Wednesday's final boys consolation semifinal.
On the girls' side, the Heavener Lady Wolves defeated LeFlore County rival Wister 38-26 in the only consolation semifinal played on Wednesday.
Heavener will play the winner of Thursday afternoon's consolation semifinal between Poteau and Roland at 11 a.m. Saturday.
One half of Saturday's girls championship game is set as Muldrow edged Wilburton 33-30 in the last game played on Wednesday. The Lady Bulldogs will play the winner Thursday's Howe-Fort Gibson game at 3 p.m. Saturday for the championship, while the Lady Diggers will face the Howe-Fort Gibson loser for third place at 1 p.m. Saturday.
Today is an off day for the tournament.
