Muldrow freshmen teams sweep Heavener in Poteau Tournament

November 28, 2012

While the margins of victory were different in the Heavener-Muldrow basketball teams' games on the first day of the Poteau Freshmen Tournament, which took place Monday at Sherman Floyd Fieldhouse, the same team won. A late surge by the Bulldogs lifted them to a 40-29 victory over the Wolves, but the Lady Wolves were totally outmatched by the Lady Bulldogs in Muldrow's 45-10 victory.
The rest of the opening-round games took place Tuesday night at Sherman Floyd Fieldhouse as host Poteau faced Spiro's teams.
Sallisaw's teams automatically got a bye into Thursday night's semifinals against the winner of the Poteau-Spiro games because Wister's teams dropped out of the tournament.
Today will be the consolation semifinals. On the girls side, Heavener will play Roland at 5 p.m. The winner will then play the Poteau-Spiro loser for the consolation championship at 10 a.m. Saturday, while the loser will be eliminated.
On the boys side, Heavener will face Wilburton at 6 p.m. tonight. The victor will meet the Poteau-Spiro loser for the consolation championship at 11 a.m. Saturday, while the loser will be eliminated from the tournament.
However, at press time there was discussion of finding a boys team and a girls team to be able to fill out the consolation side of the brackets so that Tuesday's Poteau-Spiro losers will not have to wait until Saturday to play another game.
