My first predictions for 2012 LeFlore County Tournament

December 30, 2011

Here is my first prediction for the 2012 Leflore County Basketball Championship. On the girls' side, I a predicting that the Spiro Lady Bulldogs and the Howe Lady Lions will play for the championship, and I believe that Spiro will pull off the upset, although Howe won Thursday afternoon's close contest in the Panama Holiday Festival. Either one of the Lady Bulldog big girls should walk away with the Most Valuable Player Award.
Talihina should win third place in the tournament. The one thing that is going to hinder the Poteau Lady Pirates is the fact that they have not won a game so far this year, but when you play Stilwell, McAlester, Spiro and the Class 7A teams out of western Arkansas, it's a very physically demanding schedule. There is not another team in the county whose schedule approaches, or is even in the same general area, as the Lady Pirates' schedule. Their No. 7 seeding could propel them into difficult second-round match-up, but I think the Lady Pirates will finish in the top five.
The Arkoma Lady Mustangs will be honored with the Sportsmanship Award.
