Friday night, the Leflore High School basketball teams swept their first games played on Nadine Carpenter Court, getting wins over Indianola.
The weekend before, the legendary coach was honored by having her the court christened Nadine Carpenter Court during the alumni basketball games. Then, the Lady Savages and Savages posted wins on the first-ever true high school basketball games played on the “new” court. Way to go, Lady Savages and Savages, and congratulations Nadine. I figure it had to be a neat night — maybe not the fanfare of the actual court christening, but close.
You're probably wondering why I'm mentioning football in a basketball column. Here's why.
For as long as the Poteau Daily News is in what we call “Football Frenzy” where we hold the Saturday edition for the Friday night high school football games, we'll be able to accommodate Friday night hoops as well.
I got people to take a photograph of the basketball scorebook scoresheets, both our teams' and the opposition's. They were then sent to my e-mail box, posted as a Facebook message to me or sent to Editor Kim Ross' phone (who then e-mailed them to me). I know next Friday night, all five county non-football schools play. If the same kind of help can take place this Friday night as last Friday night, we should be able to get all four match-ups reported in Saturday morning's paper instead of having to wait until Tuesday's paper to report them.
Scoresheet photographs can be e-mailed to email@example.com or firstname.lastname@example.org, through Facebook messages or by sending them to Kim's phone at (918) 721-5261 and she'll send them on to me. Of course, I can be called at (580) 341-8419.
Thanks for y'all's help. This is what I mean by help from “The LeFlore County Community.”
