LeFlore County Sheriff's Department released the name of two burn victims involved in a Monday night house fire near Spiro.
According to LeFlore County Undersheriff Kendall Morgan, Myrtle Cooper, 47, and Elec Cusick, 39, were the two victims found unconscious outside a home on Stewart Loop.
The fire still is under investigation, according to Morgan, which is why the release of the names was delayed.
Cooper suffered burns and blunt force trauma to her head which resulted in a criminal investigation into how the fire started and what caused her blunt force trauma, according to LeFlore County Sheriff Rob Seale. The sheriff said neighbors told investigators Cooper and Cusick had been arguing earlier the day of the fire. The neighbor reportedly said Cooper had come to the neighbors home and Cusick had forced her to leave.
Investigators with the LeFlore County Sheriff's Department and the District Attorney's Office traveled to a Tulsa hospital Thursday to question Cusick about the incident.
Both Cooper and Cusick were flown by helicopter to a Tulsa hospital. On Wednesday Cooper's condition was upgraded from critical condition to critical but stable. Seale said on Wednesday that Cusick is expected to be released from the hospital in a few days after being treated for smoke inhalation.
No criminal charges stemming from the incident have been filed.
