New information released in child abuse case

July 31, 2012

Heath Wayne Talley, 26, of Pocola, was formally charged with child abuse and rape by instrumentation Tuesday.

A Pocola man was formally charged by the LeFlore County District Attorney's Office in connection with the rape and abuse of a 23-month-old child.
Heath Wayne Talley, 26, of Pocola, is accused of leaving multiple burns on the child's body and sexually assaulting her while she was in his care.
According to his statement to investigators, he laid the child on the bed to change her diaper and he heard a popping sound several times when he realized he had laid her on a homemade phone charger. He noticed more marks on the child the next morning and took her to her mother.
An exam performed in Fort Smith determined the child also had bleeding in her vagina and her hymen was torn.
Talley allegedly admitted his finger might have penetrated her.
He is being held in the LeFlore County Detention Center on a $250,000 bond awaiting trial.
