It only took one day before the 81st LeFlore County Tournament saw an upset.
The Pocola Lady Indians, seeded 11th, used their physicality to wear down the sixth-seeded Bokoshe Lady Tigers in posting a 46-38 upset Monday afternoon at Carl Albert State College’s Mick Thompson Fieldhouse. It marked the second straight season that a girls 11th seed knocked off a sixth seed. In 2012, Arkoma’s 11th-seeded Lady Mustangs upset No. 6 Wister.
The Lady Indians played third-seeded Talihina in the championship quarterfinals Tuesday afternoon in Wister.
The three other opening-round winners were the Heavener Lady Wolves, the Whitesboro Bulldogs and the Howe Lions.
The Lady Wolves proved to be too much for the Whitesboro Lady Bulldogs in a 50-34 victory to put them into the quarterfinals Tuesday night against Poteau.
The ’Dogs had no problems in beating the Bokoshe Tigers 59-14, while the Lions got past the Leflore Savages 61-53.
