With the top spot in the Class 4A state soccer poll at stake, the second-ranked Poteau Pirates will likely be the new No. 1 next week after they knocked off No. 1 Fort Gibson 3-2 in a shoot out Thursday night at Costner Stadium.
The Lady Pirates also had a shot at an upset, facing No. 3 Fort Gibson. However, the Lady Tigers prevailed 4-1 in the first game.
Both Poteau soccer teams return to action on Tuesday with district road games. The Pirates will travel to face the Hugo Buffaloes, while the Lady Pirates head north to meet the Keys (Park Hill) Lady Cougars. Both games will begin at 5 p.m.
