No. 8 Arkoma has first-ever playoff home game tonight, welcomes No. 6 Covington-Douglas Wildcats

November 11, 2011

ARKOMA — History has already been made by the 2011 Arkoma Mustangs football team as it has won nine games for the first time in school history. Now, tonight will have more history made.
The Mustangs (9-1), ranked eighth in Class C, will have their first-ever home playoff game in school history at 7:30 p.m. tonight at Mustang Field against the sixth-ranked Covington-Douglas Wildcats (8-2).
“I was looking at all the match-ups (in the Class C playoffs), they're 8-2 and that's the best record of any team that's traveling,” Arkoma Coach Mark Weatherton said. “Their two losses are to, in my opinion, the two best teams in the state — Deer Creek-Lamont (DCLA) and Timberlake. That's the only two games they've lost all year. They pretty much have put on everybody else, including our district (C-4) champion (Webbers Falls). It's not a real good match-up for us being the home team. I think this is about as tough a match-up that you can get. That's what happens when the district across from you (District C-3) is loaded. Even their fourth seed, Coyle, got beat by only six points by Covington-Douglas, which beat Webbers Falls by 26.”
