Norma Lois Bailey Mattox

Norma Lois Bailey Mattox, known as “Mean Momma,” of Howe was born March 28, 1937 in Howe and passed from this life Thursday, Aug. 22, 2013, in Howe at the age of 76.
Norma was a lifelong resident of the Howe area, a mail carrier for the U.S. Post Office for 26 years, a former school bus driver, oilfield worker and beautician. She was a lover of all sports and loved to watch her children and grandchildren participate in all athletics.
Norma was preceded in death by her parents, Haskell Bennett and Georgia (Mankin) Bennett Caudell; her husband, Tommy Joe Bailey; a son-in-law, Norval Duane Wayne Place; a great-granddaughter, Paige Nicolette Barton; a brother, Haskell “Pug” Bennett; a sister, Doris Cowan; and an infant sister, Opal Laverne Bennett.
Norma is survived by four daughters, Ricki Campbell and husband Philip of Shady Point, Roxane Akers and husband Donald of Howe, Risé Place of Howe, Leah Wilson and husband Dale of Cameron; two sons, Joe Bailey Jr. and wife Gayla of Wister, Wayne Bailey of Apache Junction, Ariz.; one sister, Eva Coca of Sebring, Fla.; two brothers, John T. Bennett of Howe, Larry N. Bennett of Poteau; 25 grandchildren, Robert, Rick, Eric, Jason, Jalene, Callee, Ragan, Jeromy, Zack, Chad, Chrissa Don, Tommy Joe, Amy, Wayne, Matt, Jarrod, Mark, Symbra, Colton, Chelsi, Mike, April, Sundey, Forrest and Ryan; 49 great-grandchildren and two on the way; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of many friends.
A celebration of Norma’s life will be held at 7 p.m. Monday, Aug. 26, at Springhill Baptist Church in Howe. All friends and family are to feel comfortable and encouraged to attend. A meal will be served at 6 p.m. prior to the celebration.
Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Dowden Funeral Home. Heavener.
