After a big victory Monday afternoon at Roland, the Poteau Pirates baseball team was hoping to keep the winning ways going in Tuesday afternoon's home opener at Town Creek Park. It was not to be.
The Fort Smith (Ark.) Northside Grizzlies scored in all five innings and ended up run ruling the Pirates 17-5.
Trailing 3-0 after the top half of the opening inning, the Pirates needed just one swing of the bat to get back into the game. Blake Roley's first home run of the season, a two-run shot over the left-field fence, cut Poteau's deficit to 3-2 after an inning. But from there, it was pretty much all Northside.
The Grizzlies scored three runs in the second and four runs in the third inning for a 10-2 lead.
