OKC Douglass Trojans up next for Poteau in Class 4A state semifinals; Thursday's practice open to public; send off, caravan slated for Saturday morning

November 26, 2013

I think Friday night's Class 4A state quarterfinal game the Poteau Pirates played against the defending state champion Clinton Red Tornadoes had to be among the best defensive games the Pirates have ever played. The Pirates held the Red Tornadoes to only three first downs in the game, and two of those came on long hail Mary passes. The defending state champs, who are considered to be an outstanding rushing offense, made only 60 yards rushing.
The Pirates have drawn the Oklahoma City Douglass Trojans for the state semifinals. The game will be played at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Hook Eales Stadium in McAlester. To get ready for the big game, there will be a couple opportunities for Pirate fans later this week.
The Pirates will hold an open practice for all Pirates fans at 8 a.m. Thursday at Costner Stadium, so come out and watch the Pirates before devouring your turkeys.
At 9 a.m. Saturday, Pirate fans who are going to be able to attend the game are asked to line Broadway from Baetz Home Center south to Bud's to send off the Pirates as they head to McAlester for the big game.
Those fans who are planning to attend Saturday afternoon's game are urged to form a caravan right behind the Pirates' bus and follow them to McAlester.
