One county tournament down, one more to go

January 14, 2013

HOWE TO BE A CHAMPION — The Howe Lady Lions won the 2013 LeFlore County Junior High Tournament Saturday night at Carl Albert State College's Mick Thompson Fieldhouse. PDN photo by David Seeley

It was quite a week last week as the 2013 LeFlore County Junior High County Tournament took place, and let me just say thank you to Karen Larosa, Monroe Public Schools superintendent, and coach Casey Hemphill for all their help with getting me daily scores so I could put an updated bracket each night on the Poteau Daily News website.
Congratulations to the Wister Wildcats and Howe Lady Lions for winning county titles this season.
High School Basketball Team Photos Needed
This week, I'll be preparing the 2013 LeFlore County Tournament Guide. I'm still needing some high school team photos — the Bokoshe girls, the Cameron boys, both Howe teams and the Whitesboro boys and girls.
I need the photos by Wednesday morning. I can be reached by phone at (918) 647-3188, ext. 30 or by e-mail at sports@poteaudailynews.com.
The guide will be in Saturday's edition, with the complete boys and girls bracket. Just like I did with the junior high tournament, I'll put the updated bracket on our website, www.poteaudailynews.com, on a nightly basis.
Former Whitesboro coach to be honored
Former Whitesboro coach Steve Linker, who died last year, will have the posthumous honor of having the Whitesboro High School gymnasium named in his honor during Thursday night's games against Buffalo Valley.
Linker coached at Whitesboro for 17 years.
