One killed in accident near Smithville

A 19-year-old Springdale, Ark., man is dead after he was thrown from the vehicle he was riding in.According to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol Tom Wutkan was a passenger in a 2002 Chevy SUV at about 10:36 a.m. Sunday when the accident happened. The Chevy, driven by Souvenir Kabua, 19, of Springale was southbound on U.S, Highway 259 about two miles west of Smithville, when the vehicle went off the left side of the road, struck a guardrail and overturned two and one-half times. Wutkan, who reportedly wasn't wearing a seatbelt, was thrown about 30 feet from the Chevy. He was pronounced dead at the scene. OHP reported that Kabua and his passengers James Kobony, 20, and P.J. Elmener, whose age was not released, all were treated and released from McCurtain Hospital. Eighteen-year-old Whitmer Konov and 20-year-old Arthur James, also of Springdale, were admitted to McCurtain Hospital and both are listed in stable conditions, according to OHP.According to investigating Trooper Brandon Johnson, alcohol played a contributing factor in the crash.
