OOHS urges residents to 'Resolve to be Ready'

December 28, 2012

The Oklahoma Office of Homeland Security encourages Oklahomans to “Resolve to be Ready” in 2013
Each year, about this time, Oklahoman’s begin citing their New Year’s resolutions; among the most popular: lose weight, quit smoking, pay off debt, work out more, and get a new job. According to the Journal of Clinical Psychology, those who make New Year’s resolutions are 11 times more likely to report continued success in achieving a goal than individuals who have not made a resolution.
This year the Oklahoma Office of Homeland Security wants Oklahoman’s to RESOLVE TO BE READY in 2013. Just as eating healthier is a way of life, “personal preparedness must become a way of life” says OKOHS public outreach coordinator Wendi Marcy.
“We want preparedness to be easy” says Wendi, so the Oklahoma Office of Homeland Security offers many tools and resources on their website to help Oklahoman’s take the four important steps to achieving a preparedness lifestyle: 1) be informed about the different types of emergencies that can happen in your area, 2) make a family emergency plan, 3) build an emergency kit and 4) get involved in community preparedness.
In addition to the tools and resources that can be found on the website, the Oklahoma Office of Homeland Security offers many nationally recognized community based programs that provide opportunities for individuals or entire communities to get involved and make a difference such as the Community Emergency Response Team program (CERT), the Teen CERT program and the Map Your Neighborhood program.
For more information on how you can Resolve to Be Ready or how you can get more involved with preparedness initiatives in Oklahoma visit: http://www.ok.gov/homeland.
