Opal Brand

Opal Brand, 91, of Poteau died Monday,
Aug. 1, 2011, in Fort Smith, Ark.
Opal was born Jan. 14, 1920, in Arbuckle
Island, Ark., to Monroe and Minnie
(Sturgeon) Mays. She was a grocery store
clerk. She was preceded in death by her
parents; husband, Arvil N. Brand; baby,
Arlene; four brothers, three sisters and
three grandchildren.
Survivors include four daughters, Lorene Johns of
Oklahoma City, Alta Crandell of Moore, Betty Phillips of
Dekalb, Texas, and Valeria Brand of Poteau; four sons,
Ovil Brand of Howe, Arland Brand of Oklahoma City,
Melford Brand of Monroe and Edward Brand of Poteau;
22 grandchildren, 36 great grandchildren and 5 great great
grandchildren.
Services will be held at 2 p.m., Wednesday, Aug. 3, at
Evans Chapel of Memories, Poteau, with The Revs. Roger
Mattox and Jim Cook officiating. Burial will be in Vaughn
Cemetery, Gilmore.
