OU beats West Virginia, but QB issues remain
NORMAN — Let the quarterback controversy begin at the University of Oklahoma! It’s official — OU has a problem at quarterback. Red-shirt freshman Trevor Knight didn’t play well once again, including a pair of third-quarter interceptions that led to coach Bob Stoops putting junior Blake Bell in early in the fourth quarter.I had always believed that as a freshman, Knight would need to keep his place at the quarterback helm. If he ever relinquished it to Bell, he may not ever get it back. I still believe that theory. Knight may look good in practice — as several have mentioned — but on the field he has struggled. Bell has plenty of experience over the past couple of seasons (mostly last year), and will be more steady in games than Knight has been, which will make it hard for Knight to get back in the game. That being said, the Sooners did defeat the West Virginia Mountaineers 16-7 on Saturday night at Owen Field and are now 1-0 in the Big 12 Conference and 2-0 overall. It wasn’t a pretty win, but a victory nonetheless.
