OU wins football home opener Saturday night

September 11, 2012

NORMAN — The Oklahoma Sooners home opener was a blowout as most expected. Florida A&M did keep the game close early, but the talented Sooners were just too much for the Rattlers and finished the game strong, eventually taking a 69-13 victory Saturday night at Owen Field.
It was a record-setting day for junior college transfer Damien Williams, who rushed for 156 yards and four touchdowns, including an 89-yarder in the third quarter. His rushing total was the most for a player in his first game at home, and he is only the fourth OU player to rush for 100 yards in each of his first two games.
“I felt we all played well as a team,” Williams said. “My line blocked well. They were ready for me, so I felt like everything went as planned. Like I have been saying over and over, teams are going to have to look out for us. We just have to keep progressing, keep running the ball hard and taking care of it. “Anybody could have ran through that hole with the line blocking the way they were. Trey Millard made a good block on the safety, so anybody could have done it. I had to turn my speed up to finish through, but it went as planned.”
