Outdoor columnist scores with a bearded lady on recent hunt

May 2, 2013

GEORGE'S GOBBLER — "Lookin' Down the Barrel" columnist George Midgley poses with this female turkey on a hunt last weekend. Photo by Paula Midgley

Well, turkey season is in full swing, and I have a few more pictures of some successful hunters. I hope a few more will send me pictures and stories soon.
I fought off an illness all last week which even caused me to miss work one day, but I got to feeling a bit better by Saturday. Dan and Danny Carter joined me at my lease in Clayton for a camping trip to do some hunting.
Also joining the fun were Butch Parks, Carl Milligan and Brad Wells from up around Oklahoma City. My wife has been hounding me for several years to get her another turkey, and I finally got on the scoreboard.
Butch and I managed to call in a hen, which sported a five-inch beard. Using a Jay Neugin mouth call and a Double Cross slate call, I took her with one shot. She did get revenge by sticking one of her toenails in my knee while flopping around while Butch and I were admiring her beard.
Have a great week!
