Panama football team seeks three-game winning streak Thursday night at Hugo
The closing line of the opening to the epic television series “Star Trek” says, “... to boldly go where no man has gone before.” That can also be used to describe the Panama Razorbacks football team right now.The Hogs won their second straight game last week with a 34-6 home win over the Quinton Savages Friday night at George Ollie Stadium.“It's the best I've seen us play in the two years I've been here,” said Brandon Ellis, Panama's coach. “Everything clicked. The biggest improvement I saw last week was our offensive line in the way we hooked up with our blocks.”Needless to say, there's buzzing about town when it comes to the Razorbacks.“The people are excited,” Ellis said. “It's only two games, but it's two games we haven't had in the past two years. It's a big thing. Those two wins have accounted for so much, confidence wise.”By stepping out of District 2A-6 play as the Hogs did last week, it meant an easier chance to keep this momentum going.“I don't like having off weeks,” Ellis said. “It just gets us out of rhythm. The kids look forward to playing after a week of practice.”Now, the Razorbacks (2-5 overall, 1-2 in district play) return to District 2A-6 play this week as they make the long trip to meet the Hugo Buffaloes (2-5, 0-3) at 7:30 p.m. Thursday.— — —District 2A-6 StandingsTeam District Overall +/-Hartshorne 4-0 5-2 +60Vian 3-0 7-0 +45Wilburton 2-1 4-3 +12Pocola 2-2 4-3 -14Panama 1-2 2-5 -24Hugo 0-3 2-5 -31Antlers 0-4 0-7 -48— — —To Get There — Take U.S. Highway 271 south to Hugo.
