Panama girl becomes youngest ever to take Oklahoma bear

October 10, 2012

THE BEAR HUNTER — Lani Monks, age 11 from Panama, became the youngest individual to harvest a bear, which she did earlier this month. Photo submitted by Jeff and Kim Monks

The young hunter that takes the cake this hunting season is Lani Monks, an 11-year-old young lady from Panama. Lani is the daughter of Jeff and Kim Monks. She was hunting with her dad, who has taken her hunting since she was age 4.
Lani took her first deer two years ago, and took two deer last year, from the ground without a ground blind. Anyone who has bow hunted knows how tough that is.
Lani became the youngest hunter in Oklahoma to harvest a bear in the state. She shot the bear at 40 yards in the Ouachita Mountains after sitting in the stand for eight hours, and having two encounters with the bear before it offered a shot.
Have a great week!
