Panama shortstop makes All-State; Poteau duo named first alternates

November 18, 2013

STEPHANIE BARCHEERS

For the second straight fall fast-pitch softball season, the Panama Lady Razorbacks have an All-Stater.
After Taylor Eaves made All-State last fall, shortstop Stephanie Barcheers did so this fall.
Barcheers, who was a member of the All-LeFlore County Tournament Team, hit .418 with 23 runs batted in and a fielding percentage of .975 as the Lady ’Backs got to the Class 2A regional final before losing to Colbert after making state the previous two seasons — and winning it all in 2011.
However, unlike last fall where there were three locals who made All-State, Barcheers — who will be on the Small East team — was the only local this year to make the cut.
Two Poteau Lady Pirates, RaeLynn Caldwell and Sidnee Ward — are first-team alternates for the Middle East. Should one or more Middle East All-Stater not be able to play in next June's Fast-Pitch All-State Game at the University, either or both Lady Pirates could be called up as replacements.
All three players were on the All-Region 6 Team, from which the East All-Staters are chosen.
Three other locals — Poteau's Chelsey Campbell and Pocola's Taylor Farley and Madison Lomon — were also on the All-Region 6 Team.
