Recognizing National Autism Awareness Month
April is National Autism Awareness Month-an opportunity to educate the public about autism and issues within the autism community.
Tonight there will be a LeFlore County Parents of Autism meeting at Carl Albert State College with a guest speaker from Project Peak. She will be taking questions from the parents. The meeting begins at 6 p.m. and is in the F.L Holton Business Center Theater on the Poteau Campus of CASC.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the prevalence in autism has risen to one in every 88 births in the US today. The Autism Society states that approximately 1.5 million Americans are currently living with the effects of the autism spectrum disorder.
PDN runs a column every Wednesday by Kodey Toney, who's son Konner is autistic.
Throughout the month of April in honor of Autism Awareness Month PDN will have a feature every weekend on a family who has been touched in some way by autism.
