Pirate golfers win own tournament; local trio among top 10 medalists for 36-hole event

The Poteau Pirates golf team won its own “Two Course Challenge” tournament Tuesday, which took place at both Wolf Ridge and Choctaw country clubs.
The Pirates had a team score of 613 over the 36 holes, six shots ahead of Fort Gibson (619). The Pirates are the only state team to beat the Tigers this spring.
The Pirates had three of the top 10 medalists. Cody Shore was the runner-up medalist with a 72-75—147 to be Poteau's highest finisher.
Connor Wheat was the eighth-place medalist (73-79—152), while Jarrett Lowrimore was right behind in ninth place (81-73—154).
John Scott Sanders shot a 79-81—160, while Connor Bandy carded an 87-107—194.
The Pirates will return to action at 8:30 a.m. Monday in the Class 4A State Preview at Oklahoma City's Lake Hefner North Golf Course.
