Both the Poteau Pirates and the Cleveland Tigers earned their playoff slots last week. The Pirates claimed the District 4A-4 title and were awarded the No. 1 seed, while the Tigers ended up with the fourth slot from District 4A-3.
The Pirates pounced all over the Tigers early and often as they jumped out to a 27-0 lead at intermission and then extended that lead to 48-7 for the final score.
The win put the Pirates (10-1) into the state quarterfinals against the defending Class 4A state Clinton Red Tornadoes, a 28-21 overtime winner over Harrah on Friday night, at 7:30 p.m. next Friday at Costner Stadium.
This will be the third meeting for these two teams, with the previous two being played in the semifinals at Choctaw.
