Pirates use 36-point second quarter to win flag-marred game over Tulsa Rogers; Poteau will entertain Cleveland in playoff opener next week at home

TULSA — The Poteau Pirates were challenged by coach Greg Werner in the pregame huddle to come out with intensity and put the Tulsa Will Rogers Ropers away as quickly. He warned that the Ropers had nothing to gain and would love nothing more than to put a defeat on the Pirates.
Poteau scored 53 seconds into the game, but staggered for the rest of the first quarter. Then, the Pirates scored 36 points in the second quarter en route to a 44-14 road victory to secure a home playoff game against Cleveland at 7:30 p.m. Friday — and District 4A-4's No. 1 seed, thanks to Sallisaw's 47-28 win over Fort Gibson on Friday night at Sallisaw's Perry F. Lattimore Stadium.
