Pocola Police Chief Fired

November 9, 2011

Pocola Mayor Gaylon Freemen and Board of Trustee member Cindy Smith during last nights Pocola Board of Trustees meeting.

In a 3-2 vote members of the Pocola Board of Trustees voted to fire Police Chief Dale Fout Tuesday night in Pocola. In a surprise move the trustees then appointed former mayor, Les Morton who is a reserve deputy for the Sequoyah County Sheriff's Department, as the interim chief.
It was not stated as to why Fout, who has been the chief since 2007, was let go however he has been surrounded by controversy for several months. His dismissal comes on the heals of an EEOC lawsuit filed against the city for alleged age discrimination. It was stated by several citizens outside the meeting on Tuesday that Fout filed the suit once he knew is job was in serious jeopardy in an attempt to force the city not to fire him. Attempts to reach Fout for comment on Tuesday night were unsuccessful. He was not in attendance at the meeting.
The PDN website will have video clips from that meeting later today.
