Pocola woman files suit after fall

September 9, 2011

A Pocola woman who
claimed to have been
injured while on school
property levied a lawsuit
against the Pocola School
District asking for
$125,000 in damages.
According to the petition
filed in the civil case,
Gena Hayes alleged that
on April 14, 2010 she was
at the Pocola Elementary
School to enroll her granddaughter
in Pre-
Kindergarten. While at
the school she was walking
on black mats that
Pocola School personnel
had used to form a sidewalk
between buildings
when she stepped in ice
cream and fell. The petition
alleges that in the fall
Hayes suffered serious
damage to her right knee.
