Poteau’s Ward wins top medal at Elgin Invitational; Lady Pirates third as a team with sixth-place medalist

OKLAHOMA CITY — Poteau’s Hannah Ward, the defending Class 4A state golf champion, won the Elgin Invitational, which took place Monday afternoon at Lake Hefner Golf Course.
Ward shot a 73.
Ward wasn’t the only Poteau medalist. Cathleen Manlove was sixth at 84.
The Lady Pirates, the defending Class 4A state champions, finished third as a team at 355 strokes. Hilldale won the tournament with a 353, while Seminole was runner-up as it tied Poteau with a 355 but won the tiebreaker of fifth-place golfers as Seminole’s had a better score than Poteau’s.
Skylynn Terry shot a 94, followed by Alyssa Vineyward with a 104 and Dallas Terry at 105.
The Lady Pirates played in Tuesday’s Roland Invitational at Ben Geren Golf Course in Fort Smith, before making up their own Poteau Girls Invitational beginning at 9 a.m. Friday at Choctaw Country Club.
