September 14, 2012

It was a pretty successful weekend for the Poteau Bandit League teams in Saturday's game against Van Buren, Ark., at Costner Stadium.
The fifth-grade team posted a 27-0 win over Van Buren. Mason Barcheers scored two touchdowns on runs of 68 and 43 yards. Dauntay Warren had a 32-yard TD run, while Hunter Sebo scored on a 41-yard run.
Christian Duncan threw a two-point conversion pass to Kass Fenton, while Sebo threw a pair of two-point conversion passes to Easton Francis.
The fourth-grade team had the second shutout of the day for Poteau in an 8-0 win. Connor Moss recorded a safety when he sacked the Van Buren quarterback in the end zone in the second quarter to break a scoreless tie. Poteau's other points came on a 52-yard touchdown run by Colton Williamson in the fourth period.
The third-grade squad also posted an 8-0 victory over Van Buren. The game's points came on Jeffery Martin's 66-yard touchdown run as well as a safety.
The only blemish on the day came in the sixth-grade game as Van Buren won 20-14. Poteau's points scored on an 8-yard touchdown pass from Clay Cross to Bryce Palmer, who then kicked the extra point. Poteau's second TD came on a 10-yard run for a 14-0 lead before the visitors ended the game by scoring the final 20 points to snatch the win away.
The Poteau teams will return to action beginning at 3:30 p.m. Saturday on the road against Greenwood, Ark.
