Poteau Bandit League teams sweep Westville on Saturday

WESTVILLE — It was a happy trip up and down U.S. 59 on Saturday as the Poteau Bandit League football teams went 4-0 against the homestanding Westville squads.
The sixth-grade Poteau team handled Westville 24-8, which followed the fifth-grade team's 28-0 shutout of Westville, a thrilling come-from-behind 24-22 victory for the fourth-graders and a 25-7 win for the third-graders.
In the sixth-grade contest, Kale Barcheers had two rushing touchdowns, while Jamison Shackleford had another rushing TD. Seth Ryan kicked three two-point conversions for Poteau.
In the fifth-grade game, Christian Scott rushed for a 9-yard touchdown and caught a 12-yard TD pass from Clay Cross. Josh Smith had a 70-yard touchdown run, and Josh Neal took it in from five yards out.
The fourth-grade contest had the most excitement as Mason Barcheers scored his third touchdown of the game with nine seconds left to tie the game at 22-all, then Tristan Vancile kicked the game-winning, two-point conversion for the win. All total, Barcheers scored all three Poteau TDs, while Vancile kicked all three conversions to provide the local's points.
In the third-grade game, Colton Williamson scored on TD runs of 62 and 34 yards. Cole Hensley took it in from 6 yards out, and Connor Moss scored on a 4-yard TD run. Moss also had a one-point conversion run.
The Poteau teams will return home this Saturday, entertaining Muldrow at Costner Stadium. Games will begin at 5 p.m., beginning with the third-grade game, followed by the fourth-grade, fifth-grade and sixth-grade contests.
