The 2013 Poteau Pirates baseball season ended on a very disappointing note last spring, falling 10-0 to the Byng Pirates in the winner-take-all Class 4A Regional Tournament title game at Town Creek Park. It made the Poteau baseball team even more ready for the 2014 season, which will continue Friday afternoo in the Class 4A Regional Tournament with a 1 p.m. meeting the same Byng Pirates on their home field, Stokes Field, in Byng. Today's opening-round games were rained out.
When Poteau found out earlier this week that it would be paired with Byng once more in the regional tournament, it made the LeFlore County Pirates' adrenline flow even more knowing they had another shot at the Pontotoc County Pirates — and could win the regional at Stokes Field as Byng's team did last spring at Town Creek Park.
