Poteau baseball team opens season with chilly victory over Muldrow; Monday's game at Pocola canceled

This was the first baseball game of the year for both the Poteau Pirates and the Muldrow Bulldogs, and it was what you would envision it to be. With the exception of Michael Didway's one inning of pitching, the pitchers on both sides struggled finding the strike zone in Friday afternoon's opener at Carl Albert State College's Ival Goodman Field.
Muldrow got three runs in the third inning only to see that advantage dissapate quickly as the Pirates had an offensive explosion in the bottom half of the inning, scoring eight runs. Then, the Pirates went on to post another seven runs in the fourth inning as they got their first win of the year with a 15-5 run-rule victory over the Bulldogs.
Monday's road game at Pocola has been canceled due to the tragedy which struck the Pocola High School athletic family. No make-up date has been set.
Editor's note — Panama's season opener Friday afternoon against Arkoma was canceled due to the Mustangs not having enough players. The Razorbacks also have gotten out of Monday's three-way with Webbers Falls in Quinton and will travel to meet the Heavener Wolves at 5 p.m.
