The good news is that LeFlore County will have two teams trying to vie for the 2012 OK Kids PeeWee State Tournament title. The bad news is they begin today's state tournament by meeting each other.
The Poteau Buccaneers and the Poteau Rebels each won their respective regional tournaments on Saturday to advance to state.
The Buccaneers defeated the Whitesboro Bulldogs 10-1 in Saturday's title game. The Bulldogs got to the title game by beating the tournament-host Roland Cardinals 14-6 in Friday night's loser's-bracket final.
The Cardinals knocked out the Howe Lions 5-4 in Friday's loser's-bracket semifinal.
At Stilwell, the Rebels won their title game 9-4 over the Dewar Sooners on Saturday afternoon. They reached the title game with an 8-1 victory over the Vian Yard Dawgs.
In Saturday's title game, the Sooners jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the opening inning, but the Rebels put the game away with an eight-run second inning.
Jaxon Dorsey got the win going four innings and striking out four. Jett Carver came on in relief to close out the game. Josh Neal was 2-for-3 with a double and a triple. Will Hammons had a triple and scored twice for the Rebels.
In Friday afternoon's win over Vian, the Rebels had a 1-0 lead after an inning, which became 6-0 by the third inning.
Matthew Holzhammer got the win. Austin Place was 3-for-3, Spencer Wells was 3-for-3 with a two doubles and a triple and Neal was 2-for-3 for the Rebels.
By both Poteau teams winning their respective regional, they both advance to this week's OK Kids PeeWee State Tournament in Cushing. They will meet each other atr 6 p.m. tonight.
