FORT GIBSON — The Poteau Pirates golf team won the Fort Gibson Invitational on Tuesday.
The Pirates had a team score of 319, beating host and runner-up Fort Gibson (326) and Hilldale (328), which was third.
Two Pirates were among the top five medalists as Trey Wells and Jarrett Lowrimore each shot career-best 78s. John Scott Sanders had an 81, with Connor Wheat and Cody Shore each a shot back at 82.
“It was a great team effort,” Poteau Boys Coach Mike Thomas said. “Our No. 3, 4 and 5 golfers had our three best scores. All five of these guys are capable of shooting our low round, and four of them have shot in the 70s. We had to throw out one of our 82s, and our goal is to throw out a score in the 70s.”
The Pirates will return to the links today for the Sallisaw Invitational. The Poteau Pirate Invitational will begin at 9 a.m. Monday at both Choctaw Country Club and Wolf Ridge Golf Course.
