Poteau boys handle McAlester JV Friday in Coal Miners Classic; Heavener boys suffer loss to Stigler Panthers

April 12, 2013

The Poteau Pirates had to wait a day to begin the Coal Miners Classic due to wet fields on Thursday, but did not let that bother them at all.
Poteau routed the McAlester junior varsity 10-1 in five innings in Hartshorne. The Pirates played co-host Hartshorne, which beat Eufaula 6-4, later Friday night for the right to get to today’s championship game at 4 p.m. in Wilburton. The Poteau-Hartshorne loser will play for third place at 2 this afternoon in Wilburton.
The Heavener Wolves faced elimination from the tournament late Friday after losing 16-6 to the Stigler Panthers in Wilburton.
The Wolves played a loser’s bracket semifinal Friday night, with a win putting them into today’s consolation finals. However, another loss would to oust them from the tournament.
