Poteau boys make Coal Mining Classic championship semifinals; Heavener Wolves go 1-1 on opening day

The Poteau Pirates baseball team won its opening-round game in the Coal Mining Classic on Thursday night in Wilburton, doubling the Stigler Panthers 8-4.
The Pirates played in the championship semifinals Friday night in Wilburton, with a win putting them into this afternoon's title game at 3:30 p.m. in Hartshorne. A loss Friday night put them into the third-place game at 1:15 this afternoon.
The Heavener Wolves went 1-1 on the day, routing the McAlester junior varsity 12-1, but falling 3-2 to Hartshorne on the host Miners' field. The Wolves played a consolation semifinal game Friday afternoon, with a win putting them into the consolation finals at 11 this morning in Hartshorne.
